Whether you are brand new to the church thing or you’ve been around church for a while; we want to say welcome! Our goal at Christ the King is to create environments and experiences where you can encounter God in the midst of your life. When you come to Christ the King on a weekend, our aim is that you would be drawn to worship by the music, inspired and encouraged by the message, and welcomed by our amazing community of people & be reminded that God’s grace is here!
We believe, teach, and confess the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe, teach, and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe in Him.
Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through who everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation. The proclamation of God’s message to us as both law and gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy in the person and work of Jesus Christ through whom God was pleased to reconcile all things to himself.
The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.
We believe, teach, and accept the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the sole authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith, and life.
We accept the Apostle’s, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the scriptural faith we believe, teach, and confess.
We believe, teach, and confess the gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the priesthood of all believers for God’s mission in the world.
Christ the King began in 1983 when a group of people from Fallbrook desired to begin a new Lutheran congregation affiliated with the American Lutheran Church. The original members met in local schools for worship until a church building was erected at 1620 S Stage Coach Lane in 1987. Pastor Don Bankson was the founding pastor and served until 1989.
Pastor John Spann came as an interim pastor in 1989 and in 1990 Pastor Phil Tukua was called. Pastor Magnus Egge came as a volunteer pastor to help Pastor Phil in this growing congregation in the early 90’s. During the next 20 years Christ the King grew, adding more staff and ministry positions. Pastor Mark Johnson was called in 1996 as the new associate pastor. Then in 2011, Pastor Phil and Pastor Egge both retired from ministry, and Pastor Mark took the reins as the new senior pastor. In July 2012, Pastor Kenneth Davis was called as the new associate pastor. Pastor Davis moved to a new church in 2016. And in December 2017, Pastor Steve Gilbertson became the new interim associate pastor until he passed away unexpectedly in September of 2020. In November of 2020, Pastor Mike Anderson became the new Associate Pastor. Just two years later in 2022 Pastor Mark Johnson was called to a church in Arizona. The following year in December, Pastor Brandon Way was ordained and became the Lead Pastor for Christ the King.
